Don't meet your lawyer by "accident"
All too often, choosing a lawyer is a painful process. Involvement in a car accident, facing criminal charges or being served with Court papers can seem like the end of the world. In these stressful circumstances you may not know what to do or where to turn. Your lawyer is not the biggest ad in the phone book: he or she is a highly trained professional who will provide you with opinions and advice based on years of education and experience. This is a big responsibility and one that all of us at RMcD Law Offices, lawyers and support staff alike, take very seriously.
Your doctor, dentist and other health professionals have access to your medical history and can meet your needs not only because they are trained to, but because they know you. You take your vehicle to your favourite garage because you like the service and trust the mechanic's expertise and integrity. The law firm you choose to represent you must meet your needs and expectations. Whether buying or selling property, starting up an exciting new business venture, or planning for your family's future, our office is privileged to serve and honoured to be chosen to assist.
In the unhappy event stressful circumstances do arise, our clients are better prepared to meet them with our experienced and service-oriented firm behind them. RMcD Law Offices is located on the North side of Lethbridge and its unique "boutique" structure gives our independent associates the freedom of being a sole practitioner with the systems, staff, support, and collegiality of an established firm.
Ronald McDonald (no middle name or initial) received his law degree from the University of Saskatchewan, attending evening classes while working days as a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Mr. McDonald and his family moved to Lethbridge upon his graduation so that he could complete his articles at the firm of Maxwell Larson. Mr. McDonald was called to the Bar in 1984 and hung out his shingle as a sole practitioner soon after. He received his 30-year pin from the Alberta Law Society in 2014.
Mr. McDonald is a member in good standing of the Law Society of Alberta and throughout his career has been a member or professionally affiliated with the Alberta Civil Trial Lawyers' Association, the Christian Legal Fellowship, and the Lethbridge Bar Association. He has attended two sessions of the International Academy of Apologetics, Evangelism & Human Rights at Trinity College & Seminary in Strasbourg and three Christian Legal Intervention Academies here in Canada. Ron honours his Scottish heritage whenever possible, serving as Scotch Steward for the Lethbridge Burns Society and attending as many of their events as he can. |
Mr. McDonald's preferred areas of practice are Labour and Health Law (including contract negotiations, wrongful dismissal and severance package review), Residential and Commercial Real Estate Conveyancing (including Relocations), Corporate & Commercial transactions, and Litigation. He has represented clients at all three Alberta Courts (Provincial, Queen's Bench and the Court of Appeal) and has extensive experience with administrative panels such as WCB and Alberta Human Rights. Prior to Covid-19 restrictions on the program, Mr. McDonald provided Mediator services to Alberta Provincial Court (Civil Division).
In addition to his regular case load, Mr. McDonald is committed to ensuring children before the Courts have a voice to speak for them. Ron accepts private retainers as well as appointments from Legal Aid and the Office of the Child & Youth Advocate of Alberta to provide Legal Representation for Children & Youth. He pursues further training and certification annually as required so that he may continue providing this valuable and needed service.
What's with the K.C.? Every two years, it is tradition in the Province of Alberta that selected lawyers be recognized for their outstanding contributions to the legal profession or in public life. Mr. McDonald was honoured with the distinction of Queen's Counsel by the Lieutenant Governor in Council in 2009. On the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on September 8th, 2022, Q.C. designations automatically became "K.C." or "King's Counsel".
